What we believe

Here at Halton we have people from all sorts of faith backgrounds and none-at-all

We welcome anyone who is seeking the love of God and wants to follow Jesus in their life.

Our statement of faith below describes the basics of what we believe, according to our understanding of the Bible

We believe in one God, creator of the universe, who is the only God and worthy of our worship and service.

We believe this God is the three-in-one God of Father, Son, and Spirit who is revealed to us in creation through Jesus Christ.

We believe that God is the only one who can forgive sin and offers eternal life to those who respond in faith.

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, God in human form who was born to Mary and God’s chosen one.

We believe that Jesus lived an entirely perfect and sinless life where he demonstrated that he was both fully divine and fully human.

We believe that Jesus was crucified by Pontius Pilate and on the cross defeated evil, made humanity right with God, and took the punishment for our sins onto himself.

We believe that on the third day Jesus rose again, appeared to many, and ascended to heaven to be with the Father. He is seated at the Father’s right hand, interceding for humanity.

We believe that Jesus will return in glory, where the Kingdom of God will be fully established and all who believe will be resurrected to perfect eternal life.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, sent by Jesus at Pentecost to live within those who have come to faith in God through Jesus Christ.

We believe that this Spirit empowers and equips God’s people to do the works that God calls us to.

We believe that the Spirit produces many gifts, both natural and supernatural, which are for the benefot of God’s church and Kingdom.

We believe the Spirit reveals God’s will to the people and grants the ability to discern and follow God’s desires for the church and world today.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God given through the Spirit to encourage and guide the church.

We believe that the Bible reveals the person of Jesus Christ who in turn reveals God to humanity. These revelations cannot be superceded and show us God in fullness according to our limited ability to perceive and understand.

We believe in the grace of God which is all-sufficient for our salvation and redemption.

We believe that this grace is the unmerited favour of God towards humanity and cannot be earned or bought. It is offered freely to all through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and is made available to all who would seek to respond to it.

We believe that God’s grace is the forgiveness of humanity’s sinful nature and the acceptance of this grace gives the recipient the rights and responsibilities of adoption into God’s family.

We believe that the church is God’s plan for gathering those who have responded to the gracious invitation made, for the purposes of building the Kingdom on earth.

We believe that the regular gathering of God’s people in worship, praise, prayer, supplication, intercession, and exhortation of the Word is in accordance with God’s desire and honours God.

We believe that the church is built around the gathered people of God regardless of where or when they meet, save that the focus is on seeking the presence of the Risen Jesus together.

We believe that this community should bear witness to Jesus in every aspect of its life, encourage and build up those within the fellowship, seek and determine God’s will through the Spirit, and welcome those who seek after God into the community.

We believe that Jesus gave the church the activities of Baptism and Communion as sacraments which we are to practice until the day of Jesus’ return.

We believe in the baptism of believers through full-immersion in water* for all who profess their faith in God, turn from sinful living, and seek to earnestly follow Jesus in their lives.

We believe that Baptism is open to all who can honestly make this profession of faith.

We believe that Jesus gave the church the act of Communion to remember the sacrifice made on the cross, and as a foretaste of the banquet prepared in the Kingdom of God.

We believe that all who seek the love of Jesus are welcomed to participate in communion and that the choice to do so is made by the individual believer.

*where full-immersion is not possible we extend grace and encourage those who seek the Lord to make their commitment appropriately under the guidance of the Spirit.

We believe that God has a plan and purpose for all of creation and that this plan is the restoration of all things to right relationship with God.

We believe that God calls the church to active participation in the work of building this Kingdom here on earth and all have a part to play in this.

We believe that God grants the people all the necessary gifts, skills, and motivations to engage with the missional calling.

We believe that the Kingdom is our guiding principle and we seek to work with God, through the power of the Spirit, in the name of Jesus, to build this Kingdom in our own lives, the church, and wider community.

We believe in the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit one God in three persons.

We believe that God is sovereign in creation, in revealing Himself to mankind, in redeeming us, and in final judgement.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was fully God, that He died on the cross for our sins, that He rose from the dead bodily and ascended to heaven where He now reigns.

We believe in the future personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge all men, condemning those who have refused salvation, and receiving the redeemed into glory.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

We believe that all mankind is under God’s judgement since the fall, because sin has corrupted all people everywhere, making them guilty before God.

We believe that those who respond to the Holy Spirit by turning from sin, accepting the work of Christ on the cross, and putting their faith in Him, receive forgiveness of sins and release from the power of sin.

We recognise that this can in no way, be merited by man, but is an act of God’s sovereign grace.

We believe that the Holy Spirit, living in those who have accepted Christ, produces an increasing likeness to Christ in character and behaviour equipping and empowering them to share in the life of the Church and in witness to the world.

We believe that the local church is the gathered community of believers, living in fellowship with one another. Each such church has liberty to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance, with due recognition to those whom God has set apart as leaders.

We believe that Christian baptism is the total immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. And, that those who desire to become members of this church will normally, have taken this step of obedience.

We believe that the celebration of the Lord’s Supper is an encounter with the risen Lord, a proclamation of the Gospel, a foretaste of the banquet that the Lord has prepared for His people, and a focal point of fellowship of the local church.

Jesus replied “‘love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’ this is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it ‘love your neighbour as yourself'”

Matthew 22: 36-39 (NIV)
