Boys Brigade...
Boys Brigade - Wednesday evenings
Halton Baptist Church is the home of the 7th Hastings and St Leonards Company of the Boys Brigade. We recently celebrated our 50th anniversary and we are the largest company in the East Sussex Battalion. We have over 40 boys, ranging in age from 5 to 18, meeting in the church on Wednesday evenings during term time.
Anchor Boys is the youngest section of the Boys Brigade, and is for boys of school years 1-3. We meet from 5.00-6.15pm. Our evening consists of games, crafts and lots of fun. For a few minutes during the evening we learn about the Bible. Our sessions during the past year have included making flying rockets, decorating a huge origami canoe, and playing games and having a picnic while blindfolded (for a project about Guide Dogs for the Blind). The leaders are Matt Carter (who is also the Company Chaplain) and Vikki Climpson – and we have as much fun (if not more!) than the boys.
Junior Section is for boys of school years 4-6. We meet from 6.15-7.45pm. Our evening consists of Inspection, crafts, games and learning about the Bible. We work towards gaining badges, and have lots of fun. We meet with other Boys Brigade companies from time to time (usually Saturdays) to take part in competitions. The leaders are Julia Froude, Matt Carter, John and Florrie Noble.
Company Section is for boys of secondary school age. We meet from 7.00-9.00pm. We work towards gaining badges, including the top BB badges (President's Badge and Queen's Badge). We do sports, cooking and have fun. We learn about the Bible. Sometimes there are opportunities for the older boys to help at Anchor Boys and Junior Section. We have a Company Section camp every other year. The leaders are our company Captain, Nigal Carter, his wife Lynn, and Nigel Doe. Other people join us sometimes to teach specific subjects for badgework projects.
