Halton Baptist Church - Statement
of Faith
- We believe in the unity of the Father, the Son and
the Holy Spirit one God in three persons.
- We believe that God is sovereign in creation, in revealing
Himself to mankind, in redeeming us, and in final judgement.
- We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was fully God,
that He died on the cross for our sins, that He rose
from the dead bodily and ascended to heaven where He
now reigns.
- We believe in the future personal return of the Lord
Jesus Christ, who will judge all men, condemning those
who have refused salvation, and receiving the redeemed
into glory.
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of
God, and is our supreme authority in all matters of faith
and conduct.
- We believe that all mankind is under God's judgement
since the fall, because sin has corrupted all people
everywhere, making them guilty before God.
- We believe that those who respond to the Holy Spirit
by turning from sin, accepting the work of Christ on
the cross, and putting their faith in Him, receive forgiveness
of sins and release from the power of sin.
- We recognise that this can in no way, be merited by
man, but is an act of God's sovereign grace.
- We believe that the Holy Spirit, living in those who
have accepted Christ, produces an increasing likeness
to Christ in character and behaviour equipping and empowering
them to share in the life of the Church and in witness
to the world.
- We believe that the local church is the gathered community
of believers, living in fellowship with one another.
Each such church has liberty to follow the Holy Spirit's
guidance, with due recognition to those whom God has
set apart as leaders.
- We believe that Christian baptism is the total immersion
in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards
God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. And, that those
who desire to become members of this church will normally,
have taken this step of obedience.
- We believe that the celebration of the Lord's Supper
is an encounter with the risen Lord, a proclamation of
the Gospel, a foretaste of the banquet that the Lord
has prepared for His people, and a focal point of fellowship
of the local church.
